Yunnan Guangnan Miracle! Rocky Desertified Land Yields 68 Million Yuan Malania Oleifera

In Guangnan County, Wenshan Prefecture, Yunnan, local villagers have successfully cultivated high-value malania oleifera (garlic fruit) on once severely rocky desertified land. This fruit is rich in nervonic acid, giving it significant economic value. Through breakthroughs in cultivation techniques, the county has now planted 44,000 mu (≈7,250 acres) of malania oleifera, with this year’s fresh fruit yield expected to reach 200 tons and an output value of 68 million yuan. In villages like Yanla in Jiumo Township, harvesting the fruit has substantially raised household incomes, with some villages earning 400,000–500,000 yuan annually. This specialty industry has turned once-barren mountains into valuable land that fuels rural prosperity.
