As a native of Wenshan, Yunnan, Hou Guifen has deeply immersed herself in the mountains and rivers of the Zhuang and Miao ethnic minority regions.

What impressed her most in the past year was the dramatic transformation of the border villages. Take Huanggualu Village in Tianbao Town, Malipo County, Wenshan, for example. This once impoverished Yao ethnic minority village now boasts paved roads to every home, beautified courtyards, and has developed distinctive industries such as tree tomatoes and cardamom. "From a poor village to a happy village, this is a fruitful result of ethnic policies," Hou Guifen said.

Currently, Wenshan Prefecture has established 42 border villages, and "workshops at the doorstep" are springing up like mushrooms after rain, allowing residents to "earn money, take care of their families, and guard the border" without neglecting any aspect of their lives. Since 2024, she has also organized more than 50 experts to conduct "six-point outreach" activities in rural areas, cultivating social values through reading. She hopes that "Living in Yunnan, Experiencing Wenshan" will become a "poetry and distant place" that more and more people yearn for.
