Recently, a plant of the genus Michelia was discovered in Dehong, Yunnan. After identification, it was found that this plant is the magnificent Michelia, which has been hard to find for a hundred years. Since botanist Cai Xitao collected a specimen of magnificent Michelia in Mangshi in 1934, plant experts have not been able to collect its specimens until this magnificent Michelia was discovered in Dehong. Plant experts speculate that there are only 50 to 60 mature individuals of magnificent Michelia in China, which is one of the extremely small populations of wild plants that urgently need to be saved and protected.
