The Hekou Minimal Population Botanical Garden, which opened to the public in Honghe, Yunnan in 2019, is the first county-level botanical garden in the country and plays an important role in protecting cross-border plant diversity between China and Vietnam. More than 260 species of plants have been cultivated in the garden, especially the golden dog, which is known as a "living fossil". The golden dog is a tree-shaped fern plant up to 3 meters high with a unique appearance and medicinal value. After protection, the golden dog in the garden is now full of vitality and has made a positive contribution to plant diversity.
