Recently, the Kunming Changshui International Airport renovation and expansion project was approved by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank for a sovereign loan of 3.45 billion yuan. This is the first Yunnan project supported by the AIIB. The total investment of the project is 66.545 billion yuan, and the loan will be used for the construction of the East Airfield infrastructure, the T2 terminal apron, and new energy vehicles. The Provincial Department of Finance stated that this project will help introduce international financial resources and management experience, promote innovation and demonstration, help Kunming Airport become an international aviation hub radiating South Asia and Southeast Asia, and promote regional economic development.
