The Chinese Academy of Sciences announced that the Wuda Permian vegetation fossil site, the Zigong Dashanpu dinosaur fossil site and the Guilin Karst were selected as the second batch of world geological heritage sites by the International Union of Geological Sciences. The Wuda fossil site records the ancient forest ecology 298 million years ago and is known as the "Pompeii of plants"; the Zigong site discovered a diverse dinosaur community in the Middle Jurassic; and the Guilin Karst exhibits unique karst landforms and cave wonders. These sites provide precious data for studying the evolution of the earth.
